6 April 2026 | Artemis II Crew Captures Historic First Human View of Moon's Orientale Basin! 🌕

For the first time in human history, astronauts have witnessed and photographed the magnificent Orientale Basin with their own eyes. The Artemis II crew—Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen—captured this breathtaking image during their lunar flyby on April 6, 2026.

This massive impact structure spans approximately 930 kilometers (590 miles) in diameter and features three distinct concentric rings forming a spectacular bull's-eye pattern. As the youngest and best-preserved of the Moon's large impact basins, Orientale has remained hidden from direct human observation for billions of years.

The photographs taken during the seven-hour pass over the lunar far side represent a monumental achievement in space exploration, providing scientists with unprecedented perspectives on this ancient geological wonder formed around 3.8 billion years ago. 🚀
