Android smartphones are getting better every year, but, unfortunately, at this stage it is difficult to see any major changes. Fortunately, many other things are actively changing around us thanks to technology companies, including Google. We are currently actively entering the era of the Internet of Things. In this post we will try to explain the meaning of this term, which may even sound strange to many.
Internet of Things (Internet of Things, also known as IoT) is a neologism introduced in 1999 by Kevin Ashton, founder of the Auto-ID Center at MIT. The term applies to things other than computers and smartphones that have the ability to connect to the network and the Internet. This definition includes modern cars, fitness trackers, smart light bulbs and other modern household appliances that can be controlled using a smartphone. I'm sure you've heard something about them, and maybe you even have a few of them.
Initially, we became connected to the Internet using computers. Then smartphones gave us mobile Internet access. The Internet of Things is what makes the space around us smarter by spreading the Network to other objects. Any device that can exchange information using a network interface can be part of the Internet of Things.
Do you think this is a modest innovation for our lives? Analysts from BI Intelligence don't think so. They expect 22.5 billion IoT devices to be available by 2021. In 2016, 6.6 billion could be counted. Consequently, it is in the coming years, including 2017, that we will see the active development of the Internet of Things and notice how smart devices come into our lives, changing it.
Perhaps today we will stick to smart light bulbs, but in the future it will be difficult to buy a household appliance that cannot connect to your smartphone. Moreover, the Internet of Things will come not only to our homes. Public transport could become smarter, making it more convenient to use. The scope of application is much wider. The Internet of Things will not only allow you to see on your smartphone that your pie is ready. The Internet of Things can change the way urban infrastructure works. Everything is for our convenience, so get ready to welcome the Internet of Things.
