Archaeologists in Turkey have discovered the likely burial site of Saint Nicholas, also known as St. Nicholas or Saint Nicholas. Scientists unearthed the sarcophagus during ongoing excavations at the Church of Saint Nicholas in the city of Demre in Antalya province. Saint Nicholas is one of the most famous Christian saints. He lived in the 4th century AD and was the archbishop of the ancient city of Myra in Lycia. Saint Nicholas is considered the patron saint of children and the prototype of Santa Claus.

According to the researchers, the sarcophagus, which is about two meters long, is made of limestone. It was found at a depth of about two meters below the surface. Archaeologists have begun a detailed study of the outer part of the burial artifact. "Our greatest hope is to find an inscription on the sarcophagus. This will help clarify the contents of the burial and allow us to determine the exact period to which it belongs," Fatma Findik, associate professor at Hatay Mustafa Kemal Ebru University and head of the excavations, told reporters. Scientists noted that the find was an important discovery for both science and religious communities. It offers a deeper understanding of the final resting place of St. Nicholas.
