Workers discovered the first traces of the ancient vessel in July.
They immediately notified archaeologists about the discovery, who began excavations. The exact age of the ship is unknown. However, archaeologist Miomir Korac suggests that it could have been built and used around the 3rd-4th centuries AD.
At that time, the Roman city of Viminacium stood on this site. It was located about 70 kilometers from modern Belgrade. It is assumed that the found ship plied along the tributary that connected the city with the Danube.
