The Artemis II mission is set to make history on April 1st, carrying a diverse crew of four astronauts nearly 230,000 miles from Earth. This landmark journey represents the first time humans will travel beyond low Earth orbit since the conclusion of the Apollo 17 mission in 1972. Featuring a joint team from the United States and Canada, the flight symbolizes a bold new era of international partnership in space exploration. The crew will loop around the Moon, pushing the boundaries of human reach and setting the stage for a sustainable presence on the lunar surface.

As a critical stress test for the Space Launch System rocket and the Orion spacecraft, this mission is designed to prove that modern technology can sustain human life against the intense radiation and isolation of deep space. Unlike the landings of the past, Artemis II focuses on validating the safety systems required for long-term survival. A successful return will clear the path for Artemis III, the mission intended to land humans on the Moon once again. By mastering the journey there and back, NASA and its partners are ensuring the safety of future explorers before they attempt to live and work on the lunar frontier.
