A month and a half after its previous release, the Arch-based CachyOS operating system has released its second update this year, based on the Linux kernel 6.19.

A key change is the addition of a system appearance preview to the installer. When selecting a desktop environment, users now see images that provide a general idea of each option. Animations are available for KDE Plasma, GNOME, Niri, and COSMIC.
Additionally, the environment selection list has been redesigned: environments are now arranged in order from simpler to more complex configurations, such as OpenBox. The installer also improves hardware compatibility by automatically detecting and installing the correct microcode package for the processor, rather than installing versions for Intel and AMD.
Another important addition is integration with Winboat (a Windows image for Docker). Users can now install and activate Winboat with one click through the CachyOS Welcome app.
System configuration tools have also been updated. In cachyos-settings, the wireless throttling domain is now set automatically based on the user's time zone. Furthermore, the error reporting script now automatically removes sensitive data before submission, including IP addresses, hostnames, usernames, and MAC addresses.
The Handheld Edition includes several changes tailored to gaming devices. Gamescope-session-plus has been replaced with gamescope-session-cachyos, a fork of Valve's gamescope-session that allows for firmware updates on devices like the Steam Deck and Lenovo Legion Go. The login manager has also been updated: SDDM is now replaced by plasma-login-manager.
The portable version now uses Limine as the default bootloader, allowing for automatic system state snapshots. Systemd-boot remains an option. Furthermore, the installer has been merged with the desktop Calamares installer, and the installation environment now runs on Wayland instead of X11.
Finally, this release has a few fixes. It was removed
bcachefs has been removed from the list of file systems, as it now requires a separate bcachefs-dkms module. The team also addressed issues with LUKS2 encryption on some devices and fixed issues related to enabling the Ly display manager.
